Net Use

The net use command is a Command Prompt command that's used to connect to, remove, and configure connections to shared resources, like mapped drives and network printers.

delete

In this example we can use the 'net use' command to release a mapped drive. This is particularly useful when Windows fails to let you map a network drive either because it is already mapped OR there has been a failed attempt at mapping caused by wrong user / password. First check all mappings by entering the 'net use' command:

C:\Users\User>net use

New connections will be remembered.

Status Local Remote Network

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK Z: \\192.168.0.2\share
                                                Microsoft Windows Network
The command completed successfully.

Now you have the mapping list you can remove it:

C:\Users\User>net use Z: /delete

C:\Users\User>net use Z: /delete
Z: was deleted successfully.

If you have the remote location mapping but no local drive letter then add it first: C:\Users\User>net use Z: \\192.168.0.2\share

C:\Users\User>net use Z: \\192.168.0.2\share
The command completed successfully.

Now you can delete it using the 'net use /delete' command.
